Mobile banking is part of everyday life for many of us. With just a few clicks, you can make transfers, check account balances or track savings goals – anytime and anywhere. But when it comes to money, a key question arises: how secure is mobile banking really? In this article, we take a look behind the scenes of modern security measures and show you how you can optimally protect your account.

First things first:

Is your money safe with Clanq?

Yes, it is.

In Switzerland, Clanq AG is a reliable partner that works together with Cornèr Bank. Your money is protected by the Swiss deposit protection scheme esisuisse. This means that even in the unlikely event of bank insolvency, your deposits are protected up to CHF 100’000 per customer. So you can be sure that your money is always in good hands with Clanq – no matter what happens.

Is your data safe with Clanq?

Yes, the Clanq app itself is also particularly secure – as a partner of Cornèr Bank, we are contractually obliged to do so. Data transmission is encrypted and we subject the app to comprehensive internal checks.

In addition, we store the least possible data. This means: only the data that we absolutely need for the Clanq app to work and the data that is required by law.

Nevertheless, there are a few things you can do yourself to make your banking with Clanq even more secure:

Tip 1: Only via the app

Reputable banks will never ask you to update your data via links in emails or text messages. If we actually need your data, you will receive a push notification via the app.

Therefore, do not follow any links to any websites. Alarm bells should ring, especially for links without the ‘s’ in ‘https’. The ‘s’ stands for ‘secure’ and means that it is a secure page from a registered organisation.

Tip 2: Secure password

The Clanq app only allows secure passwords. But you should also always choose a secure password for other services on the Internet.

The requirements for a secure password are:

  • Between 8 and 50 characters long

  • At least 1 number

  • At least 1 lowercase and 1 uppercase letter

  • At least 1 special character

The longer the password and the more special characters, the more secure it is.

It’s best to take random letters and make up a little story. It doesn’t have to make sense, the main thing is that you can remember it. A secure password would be Ew1m1Fm$$$u99%A, for example. Remember: It was 1 time 1 fish with 3 dollars and 99% battery.

You should also write down your password on paper. Even the best hackers can’t get to it.

Avoid at all costs:

  • Under no circumstances should you save passwords in text documents, notes or emails.

  • Names, birthdays and addresses of yourself or your loved ones have no place in your password.

  • We also strongly advise against sequences such as 123 or ABC.

Tip 3: Fingerprint or facial recognition

In addition to your secure password, use biometric data to log in to Clanq. Fingerprints or facial recognition are not only a particularly fast login option, but also an additional layer of security.

Biometric data is unique and difficult to falsify. Compared to passwords or PINs, your fingerprint is difficult to steal or hack.

Incidentally, we do not collect any biometric data from our users and could not do so even if we wanted to. Your fingerprint or the image of your face is only stored securely on your own mobile phone. The Clanq app uses this data to identify you, but never has access to it.

Authentication using biometric data is optional in the Clanq app, you can also decline it. However, we recommend that you use it – because it is practical AND secure.

Tip 4: Carry out regular updates

Updates are a crucial factor in ensuring the security of your banking app and smartphone. Every app, including mobile banking apps like Clanq, is constantly evolving to provide new features and close security gaps.

In addition to security, an update often improves the stability and speed of the app so that you can do your banking more smoothly.

Tip 5: Set yourself limits

In the Clanq app, set the maximum amount you want to spend per day, week or month. This not only helps you to achieve your savings goals, but can also put an extra stop to unauthorised access if the worst comes to the worst.

In addition to transactions with your Clanq payment card, you can also set a limit for cash withdrawals, both in terms of how often and how much money can be withdrawn with your card.

Conclusion: No need to worry, but stay vigilant

Your money and your data are in good hands with Clanq and you have nothing to worry about. Nevertheless, it is worth remaining vigilant. If something seems strange, it’s better to contact our support team ([email protected] , +41 43 588 10 22).
