I\u2019ve spoken to lots of young mothers recently. Events like trade fairs are a fantastic opportunity for me to have face-to-face conversations. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ve spoken to at least 100 women aged between 25 and 35 about finances over the last few weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing in particular gave me pause for thought:<\/span><\/p>\n

Many women told me that their partner was mainly responsible for the family finances, or that they had to discuss financial decisions with him first.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a wake-up call.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not because it is wrong to make decisions together \u2013 on the contrary. But because financial responsibility is still unevenly distributed, even in young families.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apparently, in many Swiss families, the topic of finances is delegated to the man \u2013 he takes the lead in dealing with insurance, investments and retirement planning.<\/span><\/p>\n

But blindly relying on someone else for long-term security is not a sustainable strategy for anyone. <\/span>It is a risk.<\/b><\/p>\n

That is why mothers should actively engage with finances<\/span><\/h2>\n

1. Independence creates security<\/span><\/h3>\n

Life cannot be planned. Whether it\u2019s career changes, separation or unexpected events \u2013 having a clear financial overview isn\u2019t just a \u00abnice-to-have\u00bb, but an important foundation for security and self-determination.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Shared responsibility strengthens the family<\/span><\/h3>\n

Finances aren\u2019t a \u00abhis\u00bb or \u00bbhers\u00bb issue \u2013 they\u2019re a family issue. Open conversations about money create transparency, trust and better decisions. Family finances should be managed together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Financial matters often seem complex, but autonomy starts with knowing your own figures.
